Why not "Café Grains" or "Coffee Beans" as we would say in English? Well, that's because in French, possessive relationships are expressed using the preposition "de" (meaning "of" or "from"). That's why we say Grains DE Café!

🇫🇷🍇 French Word of the Week: "Les Raisin Secs" 🍇🇫🇷
Which means, in English, raisins! Seems simple right? Well, it's actually a bit tricky, because when we say "raisins" in English, we're actually talking about dried grapes. but did you know that in French, the word "raisin" actually means fresh grapes? That's why it's really important to add the word "sec" (which means dry) at the end.
In France, these little bursts of sweetness are cherished in pastries, salads, and even enjoyed on their own as a delightful snack. In a sentence, you could say: "Ce que je préfère dans le pain au raisin, ce sont les raisins secs", which means "my favourite part of the pain au raisin are the raisins!".
Come along to one of our kiosks and try our delicious Pain au Raisins today ✨
