You know Turkish food, but do you know Kumpir?
A much loved street food across Türkiye, it’s especially associated with Istanbul’s Ortaköy, where rows of kumpır shops have been serving them for decades and choosing your toppings is half the experience.
Traditionally, the potato is baked until soft, opened and mixed while hot before being loaded with your choice of toppings, and everyone has their own combination.
At Maydanoz, we’ve given the classic our own take with lacto-fermented red cabbage. One to try on your next visit.

One-Hatted Turkish Restaurant in Sydney!🌟❤️👏
This Sydney CBD restaurant hosts a monthly dinner & jazz night paired with delicious Turkish share plates🍷🎶
We dined at Hamsi Taverna at the new Sydney Fish Market earlier this year and absolutely LOVED our meal, and dinner at their sister restaurant, Maydanoz, in the Sydney CBD was no exception!👏
Some dishes we loved included their creamy taramasalata, Tilba haloumi with rosemary honey & sesame, and tender slow cooked lamb with leek keşkek🤤
Share this for your next Sydney dinner date!🔥 Thanks for having us Maydanoz!🫶
