🥐 Why are Danishes called Danishes? Despite the name, the pastry we know today wasn't actually invented by the Danes alone!
Back in the 1850s, Danish bakers went on strike, so bakery owners hired Austrian bakers to keep things running. The Austrians brought their layered pastry techniques with them, and the Danes eventually adapted the recipe into what became known as the Danish pastry.
In Denmark, they're actually called wienerbrød, which translates to "Vienna bread." 🇩🇰🇦🇹
Whatever you call them, we're just glad they exist! 😌🥐
