Gentle Nuts Only (sound-on bottom right)
After working for 18 mths at And Now For Something Completely Different the owner Ken, an ex-film-editor, told me privately that he wanted to produce a movie about the restaurant called Gentle Nuts Only - the tagline that he put on the menus and promo material - so I wrote the theme song for him! One of my few early songs - written in 1977 after just learning how to play guitar. I was inspired by the likes of Glenn Cardier, Kirk Lorange, Dave Anthony, Jim Dempsey, Al Ward and Dave Nesbitt.
I’ve been producing all my old unrecorded demos on the new Suno AI website these last few weeks and this track was created from my original 1977 demo cassette. The movie is still a good idea 50 years later!

Started cleaning out some old boxes in the shed and found some memorabilia folders. Not sure what year this is from - I often re-used old restaurant flyers to make notes on - this original text was printed on the other side. Scanned, cleaned-up and enhanced in Photoshop - it's a great summation of the restaurant.
Because it lists "For Gentle Nuts Only" - Ken's catchphrase at the start - I will assume it's pre-Simon - therefore circa 1976-1978. It also contains many typos which I have left in - Ken was Austrian and English was his second language.
Interesting that the restaurant wasn’t promoted as a 'health food vegetarian restaurant' because - as I discovered when I ran the kitchen for a year - the Maggi French Onion Soup mix that Ken had added to most of the dishes over the years actually had Beef Stock in it! One of my first acts as cook when I took over the kitchen was to load all the big, bulk tins of Maggi into a trolley and take it down in the lift and toss it all into the dumpster in the loading dock!

'RESTAURANT GURU' AWARD
Oops - I think I did too good a job of recreating the restaurant online - seems I have tricked the international RestaurantGuru.com bot (right down to the 5 1/4 street number) to believe that The Diff is still open - and that it didn't in fact close 40 years ago this year! Doh.
And we get to choose a special Award to embed on the website! Whoohoo. Crazy. And it got Four Stars!
Which award image do you like best? And they want me to upload the restaurant menu so patrons can choose their meals before arriving at their table (or maybe to place an Uber Eats order?! 🤣) - hard to resist. Shall I?
Here's the listing... go and write a review!
