Natural Selection Theory red in Demi-John. A big bottle that always got people talking. When natural wines were coming into the market the collective of James Erskine, Anton van Klopper, Tom Shobbrook & Sam Hughes really gave it an OZ vibe.

New FIX PRIX menu starts today. Entrees are Cured Bonito Remoulade or House Terrine. Mains a choice between Lamb Ragu or Gnocchi with Pumpkin, Sage & Pine Nuts. To finish enjoy cheese or Tiramisu. 2 courses $49, 3 courses $57. From midday until close Monday to Friday. Great for a quick lunch, an afternoon recharge or pre-theatre meal.

I really loved the big mural downstairs which eventually replaced our chaotic blackboard. time wore it down so it's now under a few layers of paint. but maybe a new one should return.

Amazing old Cullen. I must apologise though that I didn't record the actual vintage. but research and my fading memory narrows it down to likely 1993 or 1994 based on the label, this pre-dates the Diana Madeleine labelling. Cullen Reserve Cabernet Merlot, Margaret River, Western Australia 1993 or 1994.

The Durand is an essential tool for older wines. This Cullen Reserve (I think 1993 but didn't record info properly) had a soft cork which is likely to have crumbled with a traditional bottle opener. but as oyu can see the Durand nailed the brief. Not a sponsored post!

While Giaconda is most famous for their chardonnay, the other wines are no slouches either. this was the Giaconda Estate Shiraz, Beechworth Victoria 2018.

Francois Millet Montagny 1er Cru Les Chaniots, Burgundy, France 2020. 100% chardonnay matured in large old oak. Francois Millet had a storied career as the head wine maker for Comte Georges de Vogüé.

As wineries go, is in Australia's top league, truly remarkable for a winery that has only just turned 50. They have been at the forefront of cool climate reds with a quiet elegance that is unmistakable. One of the first in OZ to emulate the wines of Côte Rôtie with a small addition of Viognier to the Shiraz in the blend. Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier, Murrumbateman, NSW, 2016. Yes, it is technically in NSW.

Clos Saouma Crau, Chateauneuf du Pape, France 2021. I must admit I can't find much info about this wine. I'm sure can fill in some details but most importantly it was delicious.

To get to the wine bar and Australian restaurant on Elizabeth Street, you can take public transport via train and alight at Museum Station. From there, it's just a short 5-minute walk heading north along Elizabeth Street.
If driving, you can park your car at the Secure Parking located at 55 Holt Street or the Wilson Parking located at 187 Clarence Street. From either of these two parking areas, head south towards Elizabeth Street and then turn left. The restaurant is just a few minutes' walk from there.
