CHE GIORNATA, NORTON STREET! WHAT A CRACKER!

Mamma mia! What an absolutely fantastic day at the Norton Street Festa! The atmosphere was electric, the crowds were amazing, and Mother Nature turned on the sunshine just for us!

Here at Bar Italia, we came prepared! Plenty of our homemade Sicilian granita, mountains of delicious gelato, and enough icy goodness to keep everyone cool, refreshed and smiling all day long!

But let's be honest… the real superstar of the day was our beautiful Piaggio Ape, LUIGI!

Straight out of the spirit of Sicily, Luigi stole the show! Cameras were flashing, photos were flying, and people were stopping to admire this little three-wheeled beauty. He brought a little piece of authentic Italian street life right into the heart of Leichhardt!

Because at Bar Italia, it's not just about gelato and granita… it's about tradizione, famiglia, passione e amore!

A massive grazie mille to everyone who came down, enjoyed our treats, stopped for a chat, took photos with Luigi and helped make today so special, and even a bigger shout out to our staff what a team, what passion.

CIAO BELLA! THE TASTE OF SICILY IS COMING TO NORTON STREET!

Tomorrow at the Norton Street Festa, Bar Italia is bringing a little piece of Sicily to Leichhardt!

Our lemons are sourced from the farms out west, and when you’ve got 1 lemon pallet to squeeze, mamma mia… you need more than a pair of Italian hands!

Lucky for us, here at Bar Italia, we have all the professional equipment to turn those beautiful lemons into the real deal — authentic Sicilian Granita, just like Nonna used to make!

And making a special appearance is our beautiful Luigi Piaggio Ape, which has arrived all the way from Giardini Naxos, Sicily! A little Sicilian beauty with plenty of storia, ready to bring the sunshine, flavour and passion of Sicily to Norton Street.

Come and say CIAO, take a few photos with our Luigi Ape, grab yourself a refreshing lemon granita and experience a little taste of the Italian dolce vita!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE ONE AND ONLY TONINO — MR NASTI!

Today, while Tonino is living it up in Japan, all of us here at Bar Italia are raising a glass to the man — the myth — the bloody legend!

For those who don’t know, Tonino is not just a famous builder…

He is THE MAN BEHIND THE MAN… BEHIND THE ICACS… BEHIND THE PROFESSORS… BEHIND ANAL…

Actually, after so many years of construction, I’m not even sure Tonino builds buildings anymore — I think he just builds stories!

This bloke has more contacts than a telephone directory, more stories than a Greek wedding, and probably more unfinished projects than the Sydney light rail!

And now he’s celebrating his birthday in Japan

Tonino, mate, while you're over there eating sushi, drinking sake and pretending you understand what everyone is saying, just remember:

Tomorrow is D-DAY… 1 October!

From tomorrow, apparently the little percentage the banks have been quietly taking from businesses every time you tap your card can no longer be passed directly onto the customer.

So what happens?

The bank still gets paid.
The government gets involved.
The accountant gets a headache.
And eventually… the price of your food goes up!

Well, NOT AT BAR ITALIA!

We’ve done the maths, and we’ve decided WE ARE NOT PUTTING OUR FOOD PRICES UP!

Why?

Because times are bloody expensive enough already.

Rent, wages, electricity, ingredients, insurance, suppliers… the list goes on and on.

So if we can save a few dollars here and there and keep a few dollars in your pocket, we bloody well will!

And this is where my lifelong love affair with CASH comes in.

THE GREAT GREEK–ITALIAN GELATO WAR OF PARRAMATTA!

Well… yesterday was one hell of a day!

Bar Italia was invited to bring our homemade artisan Italian gelato to LET’S GO GREEK — PARRAMATTA!

Now, you have to understand the seriousness of this situation…

I’M GREEK… I RUN AN ITALIAN RESTAURANT… AND I WAS SERVING ITALIAN GELATO TO THOUSANDS OF GREEKS!

This wasn’t a festival.

THIS WAS A CULTURAL EXPERIMENT!

We arrived with the Piaggio loaded up with gelato, and within minutes the Greeks attacked it like they had just heard someone was giving away free ouzo!

The weather was perfect, the crowd was unbelievable, and the gelato was flying out the door.

Eventually…

WE SOLD OUT!

GONE! FINITO! ΤΕΛΟΣ! 🍦😂

And the big three…

BAKLAVA, KATAIFI & VISINO

…were an absolute BLAST!

So, by popular demand, we’re taking these three Greek flavours all the way to the Greek Film Festival at Palace Cinemas — and you’ll also be able to get them in-store at Bar Italia as from today!

Some people might call that a sacrilegio…

WE CALL IT THE PEOPLE’S CHOICE! 😂

Somewhere in Sicily, a priest has started ringing the church bells.

And somewhere in Greece, a yiayia is saying:

“Don’t worry… they’ll be back for more!”

But honestly, that’s why Greeks and Italians get along so bloody well.

We both talk too loudly.

We both think our mother makes the best food....

WELCOME TO CON’S REAL ESTATE "SUPER SATURDAY" PODCAST!

Apparently, real estate agents are now doing food reviews.

So I thought, fair’s fair.

I’ve spent decades running a restaurant, dealing with customers, suppliers, staff, rent, landlords, leases, outgoings, council rates and people telling me their business is worth more than it actually is…

Today I’m launching my very first REAL ESTATE RESTAURANT REVIEW.

And I’m not reviewing some little suburban agency.

No, no, no…

I’m going straight to the top.

I’m interviewing two of the biggest names in Sydney real estate:

John McGrath — the man who practically turned “McGrath” into a real estate adjective.

Tom Panos — the real estate guru, salesman, motivator and man who can probably sell you a house while you’re still standing in the driveway wondering where the front door and what suburb are we in.

I’ll be asking the questions nobody else has the guts to ask.

What does a three-bedroom house actually taste like?

Is a $3 million terrace medium rare or completely overcooked?

Does “renovator’s delight” mean the same thing as “bring your own bulldozer”?

And most importantly…

When an agent says, “This property has huge potential” — is that real estate language for “Good luck, mate”?

I’ll be giving Sydney real estate the same treatment we give food.
