This is the kind of table that takes a while to build and not nearly long enough to finish. 🍽️
Papadum and basmati to start. Then the dal makhani, slow-cooked overnight, deep and silky. The tandoori mixed grill platter arriving hot from the clay oven, charred at the edges, fragrant all the way across the table. Butter chicken. Kadai lamb. Dal tadka, golden and earthy. Garlic naan, blistered and buttered, folded in half before it has even hit the bread basket. Two cocktails, because this is that kind of evening.
This is what Indian group dining in Sydney is supposed to look like. Not a rushed meal, not a stripped-back version of something, but the full experience: a table covered in dishes, everyone reaching, nothing left over.

Some dishes can’t be rushed. 🌸
Our Goat Masala is one of them. Slow-cooked until the meat gives way completely, the masala deepens into something rich, layered, and impossible to leave half-finished. Every bowl arrives the way it should: aromatic, generous, and exactly as it’s been made for decades.

St Paul’s Street closed to traffic, tables spilling out onto the road, a fire bowl keeping the evening warm, and the whole neighbourhood out together. There is something about a street like this at dusk that reminds you why you live where you live.
