A Taste of Hat Yai in the Heart of Erskineville

In a world where restaurants come and go, there are still a handful of places that quietly become part of a neighbourhood’s story. Maggie’s Thai is one of them.
Maggie’s Thai isn’t built on trends or social media hype. It is built on family, tradition and generations of recipes that have travelled all the way from Hat Yai in Southern Thailand to Sydney.

Behind every dish is Maggie, whose passion for authentic Thai cooking has earned the loyalty of locals over the years. But perhaps the most remarkable person in the kitchen is her 87-year-old mother Yai, who still lovingly prepares and cooks alongside the family. Her recipes, techniques and dedication have been passed down through generations, preserving flavours that cannot be replicated by shortcuts or convenience. Every curry is made with care. Every stir-fry carries the unmistakable balance of Southern Thai cooking. Every bowl served represents decades of experience and family pride.

Running an independent family restaurant has never been easy. With the rising cost of living, increasing food prices and higher operating expenses, many small businesses are facing their greatest challenge yet. While larger chains have the resources to weather difficult times, family-owned restaurants like Maggie’s rely on something far more meaningful — the support of their local community and for that we thank you 🙏

Whether you’re discovering Maggie’s Thai for the first time or returning as a familiar face, you’ll be welcomed not just as a customer, but as part of the extended family. Sometimes the best meals aren’t found in the newest restaurant in town. They’re found in kitchens where recipes have been perfected over a lifetime.

This is Maggie’s Thai.
