I recently had the pleasure of chatting with the lovely .food for about the Vietnamese bánh mì - its origins, its meaning to families like mine, and its growing popularity across Australia (yes, even the bánh mì!).
If you haven’t read the article yet, definitely check it out. The story of the bánh mì is a story of resilience and identity - of Vietnamese migrants carrying with them a taste of home, heritage, and comfort as they rebuilt their lives in Australia. Through food, they found connection, community, and a way to share their culture with their new homeland.
As the bánh mì continues to rise in mainstream popularity, let’s always remember its roots: where it came from, what it meant to generations before us, and what it will always represent to the Vietnamese people. It’s a national dish that fed families through war-torn Vietnam, and today, with pride and joy, we continue to share this piece of our heritage with our community.
Thank you for embracing Vietnamese food, culture, and the humble yet powerful bánh mì. 💕🥖🇻🇳
And thank you for sharing the beautiful photo of my mama. Her memory lives on ❤️

Just for a bit of fun, we thought we'd review and compare the banh mi to our similarly priced crispy pork banh mi!
Not quite a banh mi! Moreso some chicken and slaw in a long roll! Still a fan of the hot and crispy though which could've been great in their banh mi with traditional fillings 😝
