Its time.
After 22 years, we have decided to hang up our paninis and pour our last espresso.
Thank you to all of you for supporting us over the years. We’ve loved serving you and sharing our style of hospitality with you.
Thanks to all our staff who have been part of our amazing team. To Angie who has been the rock to her uncles for 15 years❤️
The good news is a younger, better looking version takes the reins from this week. You’ve all met Mitchell. He’s a great young man that will give Bertoni some new energy and ideas.
The same team will be here to continue to serve you and we will still be around for the next few months.
We will miss you a lot - you have all become family to us.

Introducing our Schiacciata: crisp, golden Italian flatbread, baked fresh and layered with the good stuff.

Next week we say goodbye to our legend, Jerry.
For 8 years he’s been one of the hearts of Bertoni….from making the perfect coffee, to managing our store, to telling Anthony how much he hates working with him!
Jerry isn’t just a barista or a manager, he’s family. He’s given us his energy, his banter, and his commitment to the community and the Bertoni brand. He has a heart of gold and the people of Balmain absolutely adore him.
We’re so grateful for everything you’ve done, mate. You’ll always be part of the Bertoni family, and there’ll always be a coffee (or an insult) waiting for you whenever you visit.

21 years ago, Bert & Tony swapped suits for aprons.
They walked away from stable corporate jobs with one big dream, to do hospo differently.
They’d never worked a day in hospitality before, but they tore up the rule book:
-Give customers an experience, not just a transaction
-Serve great quality food at affordable prices
-Build a team of the best people who shared their vision
21 years later…
Bertoni Café is still a Balmain go-to, a meeting place, an institution, and a second home for so many.
For Bert & Tony, it’s more than a café.
It’s where customers have become family, and where they get to be exactly who they are - surrounded by love, laughter, and good coffee. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

This was our very first brochure, more than 21 years ago.
It featured our mum and dad, the heart and soul behind everything we do.
Their story from Sicily and Naples was the foundation of Bertoni: simple food, strong values, and genuine hospitality.
As we move into our 22nd year, not much has changed.
The faces are older, the café has evolved, but the inspiration remains the same.

To get to Darling Street in Sydney, you can take public transportation by boarding a bus or a train that passes through the area. The closest train station is Newtown Station, and from there you can walk or take a bus to Darling Street.
If you prefer driving, there are several parking options available along Darling Street and its surrounding areas. There is also a parking lot near the corner of Johnson Street and Trafalgar Place that you can use.
Once you reach Darling Street, look for the café on the street.
