Straight off the iron at the market, folded into paper that goes translucent, too hot to hold properly and eaten anyway. The syrup runs, you burn your fingers, and it is worth it. The ones in the tin are fine, and everybody knows they are not the same thing. There is a stall somewhere in your memory with a queue and a smell you can call up at will. Where was yours: which market, which town, and who were you standing there with?

You LOOOOOOOOVE stroopwafels, especially when they’re hot straight from the iron and the cinnamon syrup is still gooey 😍
Some of you might be thinking “What’s a stroopwafel?”
A stroopwafel is a waffle made from two thin layers of baked dough with a caramel syrup filling in the middle. It hardens when it cools down and is more like a biscuit. You can get them warm and fresh during the market, traditional made and the only one here in Sydney.
Take some packages of 5/10 home! And put them on top of your cuppa, so you get the same warm and gooey taste. It’s the traditional way of eating and enjoying your Dutch Stroopwafels❣️
They are freshly baked in the Northern Beaches in a commercial kitchen, by me, Annemarie
