For today’s ‘Throwback Thursday’ we look back at this week in 1975.
Our fine picture shows talented mare Milford Mary returning after a Harold Park win (her last) on 12 September 1975.
With a beaming trainer and driver JC (Jim) Caffyn in the sulky, Milford Mary had won a 4YO Pace at headquarters.
Milford Mary, bred by New Zealand by Jim Dalgety, was by Out to Win USA out of Milford Nurse NZ.
Only lightly raced, she won 12 (with nine placing as well) of her 34 career starts.
At 2, she won the Tudor Watch Stakes for 2YO Fillies at Harold Park and the Golden Horseshoe 2YO at Menangle.
As a three-year-old, she won the Penrith Oaks, Golden Easter Egg at Fairfield and the JL Raith Memorial at Harold Park. She also finished second in the NSW Oaks.
Milford Mary won six at Harold Park.
Later at Stud she produced talented trotter Shining Effort, a Harold Park Trotters Cup winner for John Lewis, as well as pacing winners Dominance (17 wins) and Seductable (5 wins).
A proud moment in our rich harness racing’s history.
