At funerals and wakes, sometimes a song says what we struggle to put into words. 🤍
In the Season 4 Ted Lasso finale, aired this week, twin sisters Niamh and Siobhan Harrigan perform “The Parting Glass” at a wake gathering at the Crown & Anchor hotel, following the funeral of a beloved character (no spoilers here!).
Often sung at Irish wakes, this traditional farewell song holds space for sadness, gratitude and the love that remains. It captures something we see so often at wakes: tears and laughter sharing the same room. And after this moving performance in Ted Lasso, we wouldn’t be surprised to hear “The Parting Glass” at many more farewells.
A familiar melody. A favourite dish. A story that has everyone smiling. These personal touches help us remember someone as they were, and celebrate what they meant to us.

Sometimes, the most meaningful menu is simply food that makes everyone feel welcome.
For Joan’s farewell at Bilgola Surf Club, that meant ch*****ne, plenty of finger food and delicious desserts, served with warmth and care.
Before planning the menu, Karin asked Joan’s daughter Jen whether there were any favourite foods the family wanted included. Joan wasn’t a big foodie, but she loved making people happy. Her family wanted guests to feel comfortable and enjoy what was served.
As Jen recalled: “Mum would have just liked to make people happy. She would prefer the majority of people to feel comfortable and eat what they enjoy so Karin served lots of yummy finger foods that were easy to eat, followed by delicious desserts.”
After the ceremony, family and friends raised their ch*****ne glasses for a heartfelt “cheers” to Joan. With food that was easy to enjoy while mingling, there was time to share memories and be together.
And the care extended beyond the menu.
“At every stage of the day the wait staff were checking I was okay. Karin hires the right kind of people; people who are genuine and caring, always going above and beyond.”

To get to Ponderosa Parade in Sydney, there are multiple public transport options available such as taking a train or bus. From the city center, take a train towards Hornsby and get off at Asquith station. From Asquith station, catch bus number 589 towards Westleigh and get off at Ponderosa Parade.
If driving your own vehicle, take M1 Pacific Motorway north towards the Central Coast and take the Pennant Hills Road exit. Continue onto Castle Hill Road until you reach the intersection with New Line Road. Turn left onto New Line Road and continue straight onto Duffy Avenue. Turn right at the roundabout to stay on Duffy Avenue, then turn left onto Ponderosa Parade.
Parking is available along Ponderosa Parade itself, as well as nearby streets. It is recommended to arrive early to secure a spot if driving.
