Where We Cater for Wakes and Celebrations of Life.

A funeral service may take place in a chapel, church, crematorium or at the graveside, but the gathering afterwards can be held somewhere more personal and significant to the person who has died.

With a mobile kitchen in our catering van, we can prepare and serve food in locations without conventional kitchen facilities. This flexibility means we can cater almost anywhere, including:

* Your home, with drop-off catering or experienced staff to set up, serve your guests and take care of everything
* The Chinwaggery at Ponderosa
* Northern Beaches surf clubs
* Aboard a catamaran on Pittwater
* Aboard a catamaran on Sydney Harbour
* Outdoor locations, including parks and other meaningful open spaces
* Prince Henry Centre, Little Bay
* Elouera at Cottage Point
* Mona Vale Bowling Club
* Caley’s Pavilion
* The Colebee
* Church halls, community halls and other venues without in-house catering

If there is space to park our catering van and the venue permits external catering, there is a good chance we can help.

What would make a wake feel unmistakably like your person?

It doesn't have to be elaborate.

❤️Serve the food they always ordered.
❤️Pour their favourite wine.
❤️Create a playlist of songs they loved.
❤️Display photographs, artwork or treasured possessions.
❤️Bring flowers from their garden.
❤️Ask guests to write down a favourite memory.
❤️Give everyone something small that belonged to them.

You could even hold the gathering somewhere meaningful, rather than choosing a traditional venue.

The most memorable wakes aren't necessarily the most expensive or elaborate.

They're the ones filled with little details that make people smile and say, “That was so them.”

After the darker, colder months of winter, spring brings longer days, new growth and signs of life appearing all around us.

For those experiencing grief, a new season doesn't mean leaving someone behind or suddenly feeling better.

But sometimes the small changes in the world around us can offer gentle reminders that life continues. A new flower. A warmer morning. More light at the end of the day.

Spring can be a season of renewal, but it can also simply be a season of hope.

Hope for lighter days.
Hope for moments of joy amongst the sadness.
Hope that, with time, beautiful new memories can grow alongside the ones we will always carry with us.

Welcome, spring. 🌸

Sometimes the simplest food is exactly what people need.

Fresh sandwiches are one of the most popular choices for wakes and memorial gatherings, and for good reason.

They're familiar, comforting, easy to eat while talking and can be prepared with a variety of fillings to cater for different tastes and dietary requirements.

At Heavenly Catering, our menus are designed around the practicalities of a wake as well as the food itself.

Because this isn't an occasion when you should have to worry about whether everyone has been fed. That's something we can take care of for you.

“There is no ‘just’ in losing a pet. Love is love, and grief is grief.”

I recently had to say goodbye to my much-loved dog, and I wanted to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has reached out with messages, kind words and support.

Anyone who has loved and lost a pet will understand just how deeply their absence is felt.
They become such an important part of our families, our routines and our everyday lives. They are there for the big moments and the ordinary ones, offering companionship, comfort and unconditional love.

Your messages have meant more to me than you know and have been a beautiful reminder of how much love surrounded my beautiful companion.

Thank you for thinking of me. 🩷

Karin xx

Writing a eulogy can feel overwhelming. How do you sum up someone you love in just a few minutes?

The answer is: you don’t have to tell their whole life story.

A meaningful eulogy isn’t a CV or a chronological list of dates and achievements. It’s about the person behind those facts. Their personality, the things they loved, the people who mattered to them and the stories that capture who they really were.

Our step-by-step guide to writing and delivering a eulogy covers everything from gathering memories and deciding what to include, to practising your delivery and having a backup plan in case emotion takes over.

One of our most important tips? Be a storyteller, not a list maker. The little stories, quirks and shared memories are often the things people remember most.

And when it comes time to stand up and speak, remember that it’s okay to pause, laugh, cry or ask someone else to step in. You don’t have to deliver it perfectly. You just have to deliver it with love.

Read our full Step-by-Step Guide to Writing and Delivering a Eulogy for practical advice to help you create a fitting and personal tribute.

Kind words from the families we have cared for. ❤️

“Karin was amazing and took care of everything for my mother-in-law’s wake.

“It was held at the family home and while we were at the funeral service she set up everything seamlessly; chairs, tables, food, drinks, everything. The food was delicious and plentiful.

“She knew just what we needed and was such a pleasure to deal with. Her own personal experience with loss means she genuinely cares.

“Highly recommend!”

- Anna Lindeman

Every life tells a unique story. Every farewell should too. 💙

When Karen's father, Jürgen, died, she knew he wouldn't have wanted a traditional funeral. He loved sailing, entertaining, travelling and being surrounded by good food, good music and great company.

Karin created a celebration that reflected exactly who he was.

His memorial was held at a yacht club overlooking the water, with his favourite music playing, his beloved Persian rugs decorating the venue, a library of his books for guests to take home, and a menu filled with the foods and drinks he loved most. Family and friends from around the world were even able to join through a professional livestream.

Guests described it as one of the most extraordinary memorials they had ever attended—but most importantly, they all agreed:

"Jürgen would have loved it."

At Heavenly Catering, we believe there is no one right way to say goodbye. The most meaningful farewells are the ones that truly reflect the life being celebrated.

Food has always been a way we show we care.

After a funeral or celebration of life, sharing something to eat brings people together. It gives friends and family a chance to connect, reminisce, offer support and simply spend time with one another.

At Heavenly Catering, we believe hospitality is about more than serving beautiful food. It's about creating a welcoming space where people feel comfortable to gather, reflect and celebrate a life that mattered.

Every menu is thoughtfully prepared and tailored to suit your gathering, so you can create a warm and meaningful occasion for everyone who attends.

With Dying to Know Day approaching this Saturday 8 August, it's the perfect time to start conversations about death, dying and the many choices available to us at the end of life.

One topic attracting growing interest is human composting (also known as natural organic reduction). Already legal in several parts of the world, it's an environmentally conscious alternative that gently returns our bodies to the earth while reducing environmental impact.

If you'd like to learn more, Earthly Legacy founder Teresa Russell is hosting a series of free online sessions exploring whether human composting should be legalised in NSW. Everyone who registers will also receive home access to a new documentary on the topic.

“I would highly recommend Karin and the team for any catering needs.

“From the very first phone contact we didn't have to worry about a thing, Karin suggested what we would need for our occasion which happened to be a wake and she was spot on.

“I could tell Karin and the team's experience really showed through and it was clear they knew what they were doing, so thank you again Karin and the whole team.”
