As we begin school our holidays, our thoughts go out to the hundreds of Iranian school girls that were illegally murdered by the two rouge nations that started this current war.

And although there are lots of negative vibrations going on around the world, here's hoping we can muster up some positive energy with our families over the break.

Cairo Takeaway will be open all Easter long weekend.

On 11 February 2025, Jewish man, Ofir Birenbaum, who was wearing a Star of David cap and pendant, and representatives from the Daily Telegraph newspaper, entered the Cairo Takeaway in Newtown, resulting in an incident with Cairo Takeaway staff.
All parties are pleased that the legal disputes arising from this incident have now been resolved on confidential terms.
Cairo Takeaway accepts that Mr. Birenbaum was polite to staff when he entered the premises and purchased a drink, and they unreservedly apologise to him for the false and defamatory statements to the media, Instagram posts and comments by members of the public directed at Mr. Birenbaum on its social media accounts.
The Daily Telegraph acknowledges that entering the Cairo Takeaway without notice, to see if Mr. Birenbaum would be treated differently for the purpose of a news article, caused distress to the staff and owner of the Cairo Takeaway. The Daily Telegraph unreservedly apologises to Cairo Takeaway and their staff for causing that distress.
All parties are pleased that these issues have now been resolved in a constructive and satisfactory manner. In doing so, they acknowledge that all Australians should be able to safely express their racial or religious affiliation as well as debate issues in a respectful and dignified fashion. The parties hope that the fact of a resolution can be a positive example for others.

For all those who sent some ugly comments and pictures in our Town Hall protest post, where has your great Aussie spirit (that is shown in the clip below) gone?
We'll continue to protests for not only the Palestinian flag, but also for the innocent children senselessly murdered, and for freedom, and for peace, and against bastard criminals like Herzog.

Here's an analogy I thought of with regards to what happened last night at Town Hall and the movie, The Omen.
The three characters:
1. Herzog (Damien)
2. NSW's Chris Minns & his riot cops (The Babysitter)
3. The Devil (The Dog)

The Omen (1976)

Cairo Takeaway first opened its doors in 2016. From the very beginning, the community in Inner West of Sydney have accepted us with open arms. We owe so much to our customers, near and far, and we could not have achieved what we have without you.

Earlier this year an incident occurred at our restaurant, most likely because of our strong support for Palestine. An individual working in co-operation with the Daily Telegraph entered our premises with the intent on of obtaining a story that portrayed us in a negative light. The stunt ended up being an unpleasant experience for all involved. Soon after this event, we were notified that the individual involved was suing us for defamation. This was based on some posts that we made on social media about the stunt. We acknowledged that some of the claims we made may have been inaccurate, we removed them and apologised. Despite our efforts not to drag this out in an expensive court battle, the matter is now going through court.

To adequately defend ourselves, we will require support from the community. A crowdfund has been set up and if you can do what is in your capacity to help it would be greatly appreciated. Sharing the details of the crowdfund campaign or even sharing a meal with us at Cairo Takeaway also will help immensely.

You can click the link below for details of the crowdfund.

Please be careful with what you post in the comments section and keep it respectful.

Finally, a huge thank you to both David Shoebridge and Australians for Justice in Palestine for setting up the crowdfund and to Chuffed for hosting it.

As always, Free Palestine
Love, Cairo Takeaway 🍉

Molokheya & chicken meatballs w rice.
Hopefully, we'll have this in time for the long weekend (we are open).
Molokheya is an Egyptian staple of chopped green leaf, coriander & garlic soup best poured over Egyptian rice.

We bought the book Falastin over the weekend.
Please flick through to read the amazing and heartfelt story of the Nassar family.
The book is a few years old now, so we're unsure of the family's fate. If anyone knows, please let us know.
In the meantime, we'll be honouring and cooking up one of the books' beautiful recipes at Cairo Takeaway in the coming weeks.
